New Zealand bowler Mark Gillespie is doubtful for the start of the World Cup after complications to a viral infection were diagnosed in Barbados.
Gillespie left New Zealand with a throat virus, which has since caused acute brachial neuritis of the nerves in his right shoulder.
The Wellington paceman is treating the ailment and will return to the specialist in Bridgetown on Friday, adding to the Blackcaps' worries after a pre-tournament defeat to Bangladesh.
A two-wicket loss at the 3Ws Oval has proven to be a 'wake-up call', according to captain Stephen Fleming.
"There's not a lot we can say, I guess it's a result that just shakes you up," said Fleming.
"We just didn't play well, I don't want to give any excuses. It gives us some headaches and I suppose you can say it's a wake-up call before the tournament starts."
"The only other positive for us is that this wasn't a pool match but it shows how tough this tournament can be."
New Zealand faces Sri Lanka in Bridgetown on Friday.
